GEAR REVIEW: PHANTOM X TUBE MOD

Sorry for the inactivity, everyone! I'm now back with the reviews that are already long overdue. Now, to get things started, let's look at the Phantom X tube mod.

The Phantom X is one of those tube mods that you can't simply knock out of the competition. May it be in the looks or performance department, the PX can and will give any tube out there in the market a good run for their money. Pairing classic looks with a well-designed mechanism, the PX is probably one of my all-time favorites when it comes to Philippine-made tube mods.

Dimensions:
Diameter: 24mm
Length: 101mm (with the 510 top cap)
97mm (with the hybrid top cap)

Onto the review:

PROS:

Aesthetics - It's definitely a pro for me. I like the way the PX looks -- from the engraving, to the black teflon coating (I used the teflon coated engraved copper version for the review,) the ridges on the bottom cap, and the possibility of upgrading the PX with stainless steel top cap and button housing. I think all these things compliment each other nicely.

Design - This is where the PX shines. This is a tube mod that minimizes, if not eradicates battery arcing. The top and bottom contact touches your battery poles while the long firing pin (seamlessly integrated with the button) closes the circuit. The PX can also accommodate different sizes of 18650 batteries and atomizer pin lengths with ease since the user can adjust on both caps. The throw is buttery smooth albeit long but it fires every time (of course proper maintenance is needed.)

Quality of materials used - Hefty, substantial, and definitely high quality, the materials used in the PX warrants attention and welcomes scrutiny. The pure silver contacts (top and bottom) ensures maximum conductivity and less maintenance. The same goes with the bi-metal spring that offers remarkable tactile feel and durability. No need to realign the spring again and again like you normally would in other spring-based firing mechanisms.

Power - This is a competition tube mod in every sense. Power-wise, it's a performer. The thick walls of the PX makes sure that it doesn't heat up with just a few pulls. The thick button and long firing pin also eliminates hot button issues and on super low builds minimizes heating if there is any.

CONS:

Heavy - The PX is quite heavy. It's not one of those mods that you can just slip into your pocket and forget you have it on you as you go out and about. It's fine with me but it may be an issue for others.

Price - Quality is not cheap. At Php 4,500 for the most affordable version, the PX is not cheap. Neither is it a toy. It's definitely a workhorse and a grail mod for serious collectors and competitors. You can't have it all.

Machining - I admit, I've seen mods with better machining quality before. the switch and top cap sometimes catch a snag when threaded. You can still feel some sharp edges on the thread of the  PX. It could use a little bit of work in my opinion.

SUMMARY:

All in all, I love the PX. Machining quality could be improved on the next batches but aside from that, all other cons are subjective. The Phantom X is a timeless piece. It embodies the idea that mechanical mods will work until Armageddon comes. I can definitely consider the Phantom X as a "grail" mod. At the same time, it's a workhorse. It works well even when you put low ohm builds on it. Good job, Phantom Mods!

I'd like to thank John Gee for loaning me this tube mod for the review. Much appreciated! If you're interested in getting one, you may join the Phantom Elite group on Facebook.
